Today is Boy's Day in Japan. We celebrate children, especially boys growing up healthy and strong. It's a part of Japanese tradition to display a samurai helmet or a suit of armor with a sword and allows.
I painted the samurai helmet in the picture below for my grandson. If you’re interested in my piece, you can see step-by-step photos here. I bought the miniature allows and the sword later. I gave the whole set to my daughter, and she's been displaying it for her son. She loves my hand-painted helmet because it's truly one of a kind.
Displaying a carp streamer is also common. When we see them outside of a house, we assume there's a boy in the family.
The day when I took the last photo, it was very windy, so the carp fish looked as if they were swimming in the sky.

That's so cute! In Poland we celebrate Children's Day on the 1st of June, but there are no special traditions regarding that, at least none that I'm aware of. Children just get some sweets and/or other small gifts and sometimes are taken for small trips, like an amusement park or something like that
Thank you as always reading! I love knowing different culture, and it's always fascinating. Thank you for sharing!
