Toki olin jo silloin tajunnut, että meidän perheemme maailma oli toisenlainen kuin Tonin. Ei se haittaa, ei haitannut. Mikä meitä nykyään yhdisti, nyt ja tässä? Kun emme enää istu samassa luokkahuoneessa tuntikaupalla viikosta viikkoon. Mikä yhdistää mustan ja valkoisen? Miksi ne mainitaan aina kaksin, vaikka ne ovat vastakohtia? Voiko mikään olla mustaa, jos jokin ei ole valkoista? Olisiko minusta tullut mikä nyt olen ilman vuosikausien olemista Tonin kanssa?

When I was young, the differences felt smaller; everybody was in the same educational mill, in the straight rows and queues without privileges. Of course, I'd already understood then that our family's world was different from Toni's. That isn't a problem, and wasn't. What now has connected us, here and now? When we no longer sit in the same classroom for hours week after week. What connects black and white? Why are they always mentioned in a pair even though they are opposites? Can anything be black if something isn't white? Would I've become something that I'm now without spending years with Toni?
