Dagny didn't want to change the world. Society was good as it was. She loved everything ordinary. She loved the ordinary people in her hometown neighborhood who went to a grocery store once a week, and when they went out to eat, the Italian in the mall was enough for them. She loved the cars bought in installments in the parking lot. She dreamed of a family which would save money for a trip south. She identified with people who got dressed practically. As she turned 20, she knew what she wanted. She wanted to be a practical nurse. Because Dagny was practical by nature, she planned a combination where she wouldn't become totally broke and could study out of debt.
