Every Friday, I receive a newsletter from Ethical Consumer, an association that analyzes how ethical some products and companies are. They are British, so they focus on analyzing things in Britain, most of which we don't have in Egypt.
However, they researches Mega companies like Amazon which almost exists everywhere. I find their newsletter quite informative.
Last week, they talked about Uyghur forced labor in China. The Chinese government attempted to increase the number of Han Chinese people in Uyghur regions, of Muslim majority, promising Han Chinese free land, housing and jobs. After the US announcement of War on Terror in 2001, the Chinese government started to label all Uyghurs as terrorists.
At least one million Uygurs are estimated to be imprisoned. On the other hand, Uyghur advocates raise this number to three million detainees.
The Chinese government claims that they are educating the Uyghurs while in fact, they give them lessons on "the evils of Islam", emphasizing how the Chinese are the good elite. (Sounds so familiar, ha!)
They are also tortured, prevented from practising their faith and forced to work. As for women, they forcibly undergo surgical sterilisation and they are subject to rape.
In a nutshell, China is committing a genocide against the Uyghurs.
Make sure you don't buy from those brands, benefitting from Uyghur forced labor.
