Influences on Young People's Choices

Young people have to make many decisions everyday about different things, from the simplest ones, like choosing their clothes, to the most complex ones, such as deciding what to study for their future.

Even if they prefer to decide on their own and be more independent, sometimes they base their choices on what others think or say.

Family and friends are the first on whom youths rely. When they want to be sure about something they often ask their family members or their fellows for their opinion and base their decision on it.

Youths have to bear in mind that it is important to hear different opinions about a topic and compare them to have a complete vision of the problem, but also not to be completely dependent on them, since in their life they will always have to find a solution and there will not always be someone to help them.

Another important factor is society. It influences many young people's decisions, since it imposes many rules to follow, and the public opinion is not always positive.

How many times do youths give up something because it is considered unworthy? How many times do people judge someone for their decision? Is society too rude to them?

In conclusion, there are many factors that influence young people's decisions, and some of them are more powerful than others. Although the opinions of those closest to them carry weight, society turns out to be the most pressing one, since young people based their decision more on what people think than on their true interests.
