Finding a meaning can help survive. Like Nietzsche said“ He who has why to live can bear any how”. I think this why can be finding the meaning with the help of science. Finding answers to questions“ Why I am here?”, “How this world came to be and where it is possibly heading?” can be very therapeutic and provide someone with the meaning even while going through struggles and hardship. Luckily, I possess this curiosity even though some circumstances and people try to destroy this feeling and the drive to explore the world through irrational cruelty. However, I survive times of hopelessness by eagerly exploring myself as a human being and the world around me with the help of science. For example, today I found out how hopelessness is born in our heads. There are cells in our brains called astrocytes that envelop neurons. During experiments, the researchers found out that astrocytes are also responsible for a complete change of the brain state. Zebra fish who tried to swim against the current gave up on swimming when astrocytes were activated. So hopelessness is not the end of the world. It is rather a biological state that makes you feel as if it was the end of the world. I think, that understanding the science behind own struggles and problems can be not only therapeutic but can also lead to eventual healing.
Very insightful! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot for your help! :)
