Marja took the bottle with her, stopped for a while in front of the mirror in the hallway and looked at herself in the white dress; there was no light in the hallway, and no face in the woman in the mirror. When Marja pushed the door shut behind her, she felt as if she had stepped outside onto a really different evening. Different, even though the evening was darkening exactly the same way as before, the cicadas were chirping as noisily as ever, the sun was being pushed into the sea, equally red, and on the side of the sea, the pine trees on the hill were being sketched against the sky as graphically as other evenings.
