The Rain in Spain

In the early twenty-first century, some “politologists” warned us with their predictions about Spain facing, without a doubt, a war over water in the not-too-distant future — a vision that seemed as terrifying as it was plausible given how scarce the rain was at the time. So, as concerned citizens, we swapped our backyard grass for artificial turf, filled our toilet tanks with bottles of water, and took countless other measures that felt urgent. Everyone did their best to save water, picturing a future straight out of Waterworld.

Now, however, we’ve been through several episodes of intense flooding (known in Spain as DANAs), causing death and destruction in a country that isn't used to facing this kind of natural disaster. The rain has been so wild in some areas that water is coming out of electrical sockets because the ground is completely saturated. Well, a big raspberry to them.
