Päätin kirjoittaa muistelmani kaksikymmenvuotiaana. On ihmisiä, joista ei koskaan kirjoiteta muistelmateosta, ja toisia, jotka tekevät sen itse. Ne, jotka todella tekevät sen itse, tekevät sen enimmäkseen huomattavaan ikään ehtineinä, toisin sanoen noin neli-kuusikymmenvuotiaina. Mutta mitä he enää silloin voivat muistaa mistään. I decided to write my memoir when I was twenty years old. There are people about whom any memoir is never written, and others who do it themselves. Those who really do it themselves do it mostly when they have reached remarkable ages, that is, around 40 to 60 years old. But what can they remember about anything then? I'd finally come to realize on my own that all interesting things always happened at the nearby table.
