Dinner, Dessert and Disaster

This is a true story I heard told by a British actor on a TV show. I might have added a few details to practice storytelling and dialogue.

I was at a restaurant in Spain. It was Sunday and we'd been shooting all week. The food was delicious, and we were just relaxing and remembering funny stories from the set.

After dessert, I needed to use the bathroom. The director ordered coffee for some of us, while the rest left the table and went to walk in the restaurant garden. My stomach felt heavy, so I headed for the restroom.

A few minutes later, I flushed. Then I flushed again. And again — six or seven times.

“No way I’m leaving it there,” I muttered.

I walked out of the bathroom and poked my head through the door. A suited guy behind the counter stared at me. The look on my face must have told him I was in trouble because he came straight up to me.

“Is everything OK, sir?” he asked in Spanish.

“Yes, but I can’t… Do you speak English?”

The guy gave me a long answer —in Spanish— I couldn’t understand, so I signaled/motioned him to follow me into the bathroom. I opened the stall door I had used and pointed to the toilet. He was sweating like crazy, looking completely confused, so I flushed the toilet to show him the problem. That time everything went down right away.

That looked really weird, as if I had invited him to watch my "kids drop off in the pool". I'd never felt so embarrassed in my life.
