My first experience with Ayahuasca occurred exactly one year after my mum passed away from a terminal disease. My mum was my hero, she was a single mother and raised me alone and I was her only son. Watching her die, unable to breathe due to a terminal disease called pulmonary fibrosis which affects the lungs, keeping them rigid making it impossible for them to function. Because of my belief in the afterlife, I accepted her death. I missed her but was not sad.
So one year later, a friend of mine invited me to consecrate (drinking doses) Ayahuasca at a spiritual retreat. She had signed herself up and asked me if I wanted join her. The date she reserved was the same day as my mother's one year anniversary of her death. Since I don't believe in coincidences, I decided to give a shot. I was afraid due to never having experienced anything that would take me out of myself. It would literally be a quick trip. We'd go Saturday and come back on Sunday.
The retreat was held in an ordinary big house. When I arrived, some people were already there, some of them were there for three days others like me, arrived on that day. We had a small lunch, then I took a nap and woke up in the evening. Then the coordinator guided us to a large room glass walls, through which we could see the garden and the cold January night sky.
We were around 15 people in my group and each one took a seat on a thin mattress on the ground. Beside the mattress was a small bucket because many of us would vomit that night. The instructor introduced himself and his support group/team. They had knowledge of the power of Ayahuasca with some of them had learned from the indigenous people, on the other side of the ocean, in South America. Then he explained about Ayahuasca, about the psychological and physical reactions we'd have during our inner journeys.
I'll tell the rest of my experience and what exactly Ayahuasca is in my next post because this one is getting too long and I'm surprised that I've written so much in English. Obviously with the help of a dictionary. See you soon!
