ELIZAを知っている？６０年代に開発したユーザーと話し合えるコンピュータープログラムだった。ChatGPTみたいだけどそれよりかなり未開だった。プログラムの機能は、ユーザーの問題についての質問を聞いたり、あいづちをしたりして、セラピストのクライエントとしてユーザーを扱った。男性より女性のほうがいいセラピストだという。同感できるし、聞き上手だしかもしれない。または人はそれを信じているため、真実になるかもしれない。Elizaという女性の名前をつけるわけだったろうかな。今ELIZAのせりふを読めば、ただバカみたいなマシーンだと思う可能性が高い。でも人間は人間だから、無生物に人情をつけるのは好きだね。ふむ⋯can't help themselvesみたいな言葉を言いたいけどそのパターンを知っていない。習慣か伝統のために思わずになんとかするという意味の言葉だ。そんな未開のプログラムにさえ人情をつけるのは、人間のワンパターンだね。６０年代のユーザーには、ELIZAが本当のセラピストみたいだった。今、セラピストとしてChatGPTを使う人はいる。気をつけてください！ELIZAと同じく、ChatGPTにもすべてのLLMにも人情が本当に分からない。

Have you heard of ELIZA? It was a computer program developed in the 60s that could talk with people. It was like ChatGPT but much more primitive. Its functions included asking questions, following a conversation [TL's note: the Japanese word aidzuchi has no English equivalent], and treating its users as if they are they are a therapist's patients. It's said that women are better therapists than men. It might be because women are better at empathising, and better listeners. Or it might be because people believe that, it becomes true. That's the reason they gave it the female name Eliza. If you read ELIZA's output now, there's a good chance you would think it's just a stupid machine. But humans are humans, and we love to give human emotions to inanimate things. Hm, I want to say "can't help themselves from giving human emotions to inanimate things". It means that you do something for the sake of habit or tradition, without thought. Giving emotions to even that primitive a program is the way of humanity. To those users in the 60s, ELIZA was like a real therapist. There are people who use ChatGPT as a therapist today. Please be careful! Just like ELIZA, ChatGPT, or any LLM, is unable to truly understand human emotions.
