One thing that messes with my mind about some writers is how they can make the most bold statements in such fancy ways, and then trumpet them to the world as if it were nothing. That's quite a trick, and fiction particularly is jam-packed with them.
"Fashion is what one wears oneself. What is unfashionable is what other people wear,’ wrote Wilde.
Or this one by T.S. Eliot: "Immature poets imitate. Mature poets steal".
Both just rely on that stark rhetorical device that playfully combines contrast and repetition. They state witty things you notice right away and find yourself thinking about long afterward.
