Kuivaaminen kesti kolme minuuttia tai hiukan enemmän, ehkä viisi, ehkä seitsemän minuuttia. Tunsin puhtaan pyyheliinan tuoksun ja tunsin kummallista nautintoa saadessani astiat omin käsin kuiviksi. Puuhylly ja ruudullinen kappa sen edessä näyttivät kodikkailta. Kaasuhellan liekki lämmitti, ja solahdin Suomeen varaamaani tunnetilaan: tyytyväisyyteen. Mitä tämä on? Minähän tunnen onnea, ihmettelin. Missä on kamera? Haluan kuvata onnen!

Drying took three minutes or a little more, maybe five, maybe seven minutes. I sensed the smell of the clean towel and felt a peculiar pleasure when I dried the dishes with my hands. The wooden shelf and the checkered valance in front of it looked cosy. The flame of the gas stove warmed me, and I slipped into the emotional state that I allowed for Finland: contentment. What's this? I feel happy, I wondered. Where's the camera? I want to take a photo of the happiness!
