Tiesin nyt, mitä minun täytyi tehdä. Tiesin, että minun oli osallistuttava kurssille, sillä kurssilla joutuisin vain olemaan. Kurssin säännöistä huomasin, ettei minkäänlainen pakokeino ollut mahdollinen. Kurssilla ei voinut tehdä mitään. Ei edes kuunnella musiikkia. Minun olisi vain pakko olla, jolloin joutuisin väkisinkin kohtaamaan itseni. Vierelläni ilkkuva pelko vain kasvoi kasvamistaan. En ollut laisinkaan varma, pystyisinkö kohtaamaan itseni, kykenisinkö todella selviämään siitä. Huokaisin syvään, sillä tiesin sisimmässäni, etten voinut jatkaa näinkään. En voinut jatkaa välttelemistä ikuisesti. Ellen kestäisi itseäni, kurssilla voisin ainakin seota rauhassa, ja lisäksi olisin jossakin muualla kuin Janin huolestuneiden silmien alla.

I knew now what I had to do. I knew that I had to take part in the course because I would just end up being there. I realized from the rules of the course that there was no way to escape whatsoever. Nobody could do anything during the course. Nobody could even listen to music. I would just have to be there, and then I couldn't help but face myself. The fear mocking at me only grew and grew. I wasn't sure at all whether I could face myself, whether I could really cope with it. I sighed deeply because I knew deep inside me that I couldn't keep going like this. I couldn't keep avoiding it forever. Unless I stand myself, I could at least get crazy silently in the course and besides, could be somewhere else except under Jani's worried eyes.
