J'ai un chat dans ma gorge

I don't remember many French words and phrases that they taught us back in school, but

J'ai un chat dans ma gorge.*

stuck with me. This afternoon at work, I felt some pain in my throat, and it's gotten worse ever since I got home. Now I'm down with a sore throat and wondering if I'll be able to go to work tomorrow.

The plus side is that whenever I feel pain in my throat, I think of a cat scratching the inside of my throat. That's my mnemonic for that French phrase. It means having a frog in one's throat. I've always found it amusing how different languages employ different metaphors to describe the same situation. In German, we have the same frog as in English. Or maybe the English language stole it from us?

Ich habe einen Frosch im Hals.

How do you say that phrase in your language(s)?

*I've got a cat in my throat.
