Siitä ei enää voinut erehtyä. Sallan ääni oli pahansuopa. Minä menin mykäksi. Niin minulle oli aina ennenkin käynyt sellaisessa tilanteessa, jossa joku jota minä luulen hyväntahtoiseksi onkin yhtäkkiä ilkeä. Mitä siinä voi sanoa? Jos keksii jotakin nokkelaa, voi kyllä nolata toisen mutta mitä hyötyä siitä on? Eikä minulle tullut mitään mieleenkään, en minä halunnut riidellä Sallan kanssa. En osannut oikein suuttuakaan kun ymmärsin, että ei se oikeastaan minulle ollut vihainen vaan Maaritille. Ei se ollut henkilökohtaista, se vain näytti siltä.

There was no mistaking it again. Salla's voice was malicious. I lost words. This had always happened to me before in such a situation where somebody I consider benevolent is also evil out of the blue. What can be said there? If you come up with something clever and can embarrass the other, then what's the benefit from it, though? And for me, nothing came to my mind, I didn't want to argue with Salla. I didn't even know how to get angry correctly when I understood that she wasn't actually angry at me but at Maarit. It wasn't personal, it just looked like that.
