That discovery in the ant world that I read about in German yesterday seems to go viral, because I've encountered the article about it in English, too. So I decided to practice my English and write about it. That discovery has been made by an amateur naturalist who observed ants belonging to different species to use subterfuge in order to dethrone the colony queen. The queen of one ant species intrudes the colony of antes belonging to another species and makes workers to commit matricide. Before entering the colony, she grabs with its mandible a worker and rubs it against her own body in order to get the odour of the colony. While masking as one of the ants of the colony, she finds her way to the mother queen and sprays it with the formic acid from her abdomen. Workers start being agitated and seeing their mother queen as a threat to their colony. They attack the mother queen and kill it. Then the intruder starts being recognized as the queen of the colony and takes over it.
