How to Focus

by

Have you ever heard about flow state? It was introduced by a Hungarian philosopher Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and refers to a state of deep, effortless concentration. I first learned about it from my Texan friend three or four years ago. He told me that when we really focus, our productivity becomes incredibly high. We lose track of time and stay completely absorbed in what we’re doing. To enter a flow state, we need tasks that are slightly more challenging than our current abilities. People naturally enjoy taking on things that are just a bit difficult.

Focusing is one of the hardest things to do. There are so many things disturb us, such as the internet, noise, phone calls, deliveries, and more. So how can we reach the flow state?

I'd like to share what works for me. Do you remember that my article about sounds at 432Hz? I wrote about how the sounds help us relax, but they also help us focus, so before working on something, I always listen to them. Then, I use the pomodoro technique, which I also learned from my Texan friend. The technique involves focusing for 25 minutes and taking a short break, and repeating the cycle until you finish your tasks. When you combine the sounds at 432Hz and the pomodoro technique, it's easier for you to get into the state.

I use these methods when I paint, learn English, read books in English, and more. They help me save my time and give me a sense of accomplishment. In short, they make me feel very happy. If you're curious, give it a try!
