Tuleen tuijottaessa ei tarvinnut itkeä. Liekkien kiemuroita pystyi tuijottamaan ajattelematta mitään. Sisälle mennessä itketti taas voimattomasti. Hain vielä kaksi pyykkikorillista, heittelin nuotioon vähän kerrallaan, etteivät paperipinkat tukahduttaisi tulta. Tulta piti välillä kaivaa esiin kepillä sohien. Nuotio paljasteli milloin opiskelumuistiinpanoja, milloin kalenterin sivuja. Toini-tädistä tehdyn maalauksen paljastuessa palamattomasta kasasta minua vähän kadutti. Tuli tarttui Toiniinkin.
Gazing into the fire, there was no need to cry. It was possible to stare at the swirling flames without thinking about anything. Getting inside, the tears burst again, helplessly. I brought two more laundry baskets and throwed them into the campfire, little by little; stacks of paper wouldn't smother the fire. Sometimes, it needed to dig out the fire by poking it with a stick. The campfire sometimes revealed study notes, and at other times the pages of a calendar. When the painting of aunt Toini was revealed from the unburned pile, I was a bit regretful. The fire caught Toini, too.
