Jonkin aikaa itkettyäni isä tuli istumaan sängylle ja alkoi puhua minulle pehmeällä rauhallisella äänellään. Niin hän aina teki, kun puhui tärkeistä asioista. Itku loppui ja käännyin häneen päin.  Isä ei edelleenkään hyväksynyt kiittämättömyyttäni, ja sanoi äidin ja hänen olevan vihaisia minulle. Mutta hän myös lohdutti ja sai olemuksellaan minut rauhoittumaan ja luottamaan siihen, että minusta kuitenkin välitetään.

After I cried for a while, my father came and sat on the bed and began to talk to me in his soft, peaceful voice. As he always did when he talked about important things. I stopped crying and turned to him. My father still disapproved of my ingratitude and said that he and my mother were angry with me. But he also comforted me and with his presence, made me calm down and believe that I was still cared for.
