Besides the cerebellum, one more giant brain region has to do with the automatization of movements. That region is called the basal ganglia. The basal ganglia are located deep inside cerebral hemispheres. Everyone knows that outside of the cerebral hemispheres is located the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is composed of the sheets of neurons that go along the outer surface of the brain and have the most important and the most complex functions. These functions are the sensor analysis, the speech, taking decisions and voluntary movements. But deep inside the cerebral hemispheres are located several clusters of gray matter. They are combined in the whole complex called the basal ganglia. The essential part of the neurons of the basal ganglia works together with the cerebellum and stores the information about the repeated movement programs. Besides that, one part of the structures that belong to the basal ganglia is connected with desire functions, emotions, and motivation.
Let us now consider the midbrain. In the upper part of the midbrain are located the quadrigeminal bodies. That is the brain region that reacts to the newness of stimuli. The neurons of the quadrigeminal bodies process new visual and auditory signals. Strictly speaking, the quadrigeminal bodies don't care about what we are seeing or hearing; the most important thing is that the change is happening. When something is happening, exactly the quadrigeminal bodies detect the newness and make us turn our eyes and our head towards the moving and suddenly sounding object. Thanks to the quadrigeminal bodies, our organism collects new information. In fact, the quadrigeminal bodies has to do with the curiosity at the most ancient level.
In the center of the midbrain is located the structure called the central gray matter. That is the main region that stimulates the sleepiness. If you remember, the main center of wakefulness is located in the pons and the medulla oblongata, but the main center of the sleepiness is located in the midbrain. They compete with each other. Depending on who is winning, we feel sleepy or we are awake. And when nobody is winning, we are half asleep, especially in the morning or during the monotonous and boring activity.
Good overall! Too many uses of "the" for some reason.
Thanks a lot for your help!:)
