His Dark Materialsを読み終えた。いい本を終えて虚しくなり、しばらく横になったままで天井を見つめることしかしたくない、ってことがあるか？映画もそんな風に感動できるかもしれない。でもこの本を読み終えるときに、いつもこう感じる。

I finished reading His Dark Materials. Have you ever read a good book and felt empty, and just wanted to lie there staring at the ceiling for a while? Maybe movies can do that too. But that's how I always feel after reading this book.

琥珀の望遠鏡の存在は、秘密。なぜかを見極めたい人は、本を読んだほうがいいよね。かなり長くても、私にとってさえ言葉遣いが時々むずすぎても、いくつかのテーマが複雑でも、本当に素晴らしい本なのよ。

As for the existence of the Amber Spyglass, that's a secret. Those who want to understand why should read the book. Even though it's pretty long, and the word choice is hard sometimes even for me, and some of the themes are confusing, it's a truly great book.

大人としてまた読んで、子供でも読めるとされているのは驚く。ここには本当の異端があるのよ！でもフィクションだからよかったかも。

Reading it again as an adult, it's surprising I was allowed to read it as a child. There's some real heresy in here! But it's fiction, so it was fine I guess.
