Good morning, Mr. Backer.

Good morning, Doctor.

How are you feeling today? You’ve been coming back and forth all week.

I know. It feels like someone’s doing voodoo on me.

You think someone’s trying to hurt you behind your back?

Yeah — and they’ve got really good aim. I’ve had a terrible backache all night.

Sounds like you're back to square one. Do you think it’s someone you turned your back on?

Like who?

I don’t know, maybe someone you didn’t back up when they needed it.

You mean someone who expected me to put my back into it, but I stabbed them in the back instead?

Yeah, that would be a good example.

Well, back in the day when I was younger... there were some people I backstabbed — unintentionally — so I had to run out the back door a few times.

How did you feel?

Not good. I had to watch my back for a long time, fearing they’d get back at me. But looking back, I realized I made the right decision.

Don’t worry. I’ll write my personal number on the back of this receipt — call me anytime, anywhere, about anything, and I’ll call you back later. In the meantime, I’ll back you up if the police start asking questions.

Thanks, Doctor. I don’t know how to pay you back.

No problem. Steer clear of ledges, and come back soon!
