Lately, I have worried about to take a TOEIC test or not. TOEIC is a test to measure of English ability in Japan, if the score is high, it makes favorable to get a job. However, I don't trust the TOEIC test much.
I am a guide for tourist from outside of countries. I think the importance isn't English ability, more important things are Japanese ability and the sprit of service. The Japanse ability in other words that knowledge about Japanese history and cultures.
Usually, tourists ask me about Japanese history and cultures during their guide. If a guide has English ability without the knowledges, who can't ask the questions. The worst case, if a guide doesn't have enough English ability, who can explain because nawadays we have various translation tools.
Guiding is an ultimate service industry. I prepare some routes with one direction. It will be changed the taking time and the scene which route I choose. If tourists are tired, I change to take a bus without walk, and if they are couple I choose a silent road to talk themselves freely for regard.
If people get high score on TOIEC, they can't be a good guide.
I think for your last sentence, it should be "Even if people get a high score on TOIEC, they won't necessarily be a good guide." The why it's phrased now gives the impression that if someone gets a high score, then they won't be a good guide. Of course there are probably people who score high on TOIEC that are excellent guides.
Thank you for your advice. I agree with your sugestion.
