Have you ever fold origami? Origami is a part of traditional Japanese culture, and most children in Japan grow up folding it. When you visit clinics, nursing homes, nursery schools or kindergartens, you’ll often see origami art displayed on the walls. Origami has been deeply rooted in our lives.
Origami has two main types: one is called ceremonial origami and the other is called recreational origami. Ceremonial origami began during the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and was used in Shinto rituals while the recreational origami was created in the Sengoku period (1467-1590). We still keep both origami styles. Ceremonial style is often used for wrapping money. The picture below shows some examples of ceremonial origami used for this purpose.
Recreation origami is more widely recognized around the world. The origami crane is one of the most famous and popular examples of this style.
