I've been procrastinating a lot about writing in English, but the day has come. Today I want to talk about how I'm living my languages and how beautiful it is when you realize that all the effort that you have been putting into something is turned into a feeling of gratitude.
I've been studying English at school for many years. Even though it was so superficial, I think that I made the most of those boring lessons, and today I'm grateful for it. Those boring lessons provided me with the necessary content to start learning and enjoying the language as it really is. I remember when I tried to listen to a podcast in English about the U.S revolution, I think it was last year. What happened was that I couldn't understand anything and it made me feel so bad. After that, I started to learn more about English, but not as they taught me at the school. I started to study the way of how polyglots learn languages, and that was so interesting that I studied it for quite a few months ( since May 2020 ). The fact behind it, was that I watched only content in English, and that provided me with better comprehension skills.
The only English content I used to watch was about language learning, but nowadays I can enjoy other subjects like history, interviews and podcasts. Yesterday I listened to a podcast episode in English about Robin Macpherson's method to study languages through podcasts. That was a podcast episode by Culips Podcast, in which the host interviews Robin Macpherson. What happened was that I understood everything, and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Another thing about living the language, is that I'm watching a tv series called WandaVison. I'm using Portuguese subtitles(I can't turn them off where I watch), but I think that I can get rid of that without any problems. I also can enjoy all the texts here in Journaly, and when I can't understand something, I realized that it's easier to learn than it was before.
I know I'm still making mistakes, but I think it's normal, and some day I'll be better than I am today.
I also hope to enjoy Italian and Russian in my daily life as soon as possible.
Its very satisfying to see how one can start doing more and more things in a new language. I find that I´ve been experiencing that with German. Congrats
