A few days ago while chatting with my friend from Texas via Sykpe, I shared a video with him because I read the video has become viral. My friend has already know of it, and it made me think it was certainly viral.
He shared more videos such as this one, this one and this one. In these videos people from different countries were really having fun to try to copy the original dance. While watching, we talked about why the original version has become so popular.
My friend first thought it was a Japanese commercial for suits because everybody was wearing one. I explained that it's a performance by staff at a bar in Roppongi, Tokyo. They entertain their customers with the performance. What makes it funny is the contrast between the serious-looking men in suits and the silly dance they perform with completely straight faces. The music also easy to stick in our heads. The lyrics aren't completely in English, but foreign viewers can still understand some part like "Daddy Daddy". The video naturally makes people smile or feel happy.
Both my friend and I agreed that the viral video is kind of ridiculous but also really catchy.
If you're feeling down, watching it might lift your spirits. It must be much more fun to dance it with your friends!
What do you think?

Viral tunes on the Internet have many aspects that explain their spread. I only want to talk about one aspect: melodic simplicity. Most of them use the pentatonic scale (five notes), which is universal and sounds pleasant in almost all cultures. Its structure avoids dissonance, which makes it catchy and easy to hum.
I don't want to finish without saying that when the social situation is bad, we need anything to escape from the problems. In Spanish, there is a saying: ‘A mal tiempo, buena cara’ (‘In bad weather, good face’). Thanks for sharing, Yumi @yumiyumayume .
Hi, @druida . Thank you as always for reading and commenting! Thank you for teaching the Spanish saying too. Do you remember Macarena? When I was young, it was extremely popular. Your comment reminds me of the song!
