Before diving deeply into today topic, let me give you some context. Honestly, I consider myself as someone who struggle heavily to commit to do something and be consistent. Like everybody, I get interested on a regular basis by different new stuff and concepts... I am definitely someone curious who like to try out new things and venture in some fields that could seem at first glance not really made for me. I never dismiss something by default without giving it a shot, and I am super satisfied with that. However, I do struggle with maintaning the enthusiasm that I feel in the very beginning! Indeed, I get boared pretty quickly as I find it super tough to keep the momentum and not get distracted as time goes by.
One of the best example is my english learning journey! I wanted to finally take the plunge for so long, almost ten years ago (when I first get into University), yet I never managed to do it for real. Sometime I was feeling like I had not time despite the fact that I had plenty, sometime it was the teacher I found or the classmates I had that I found not super inspiring (it is easier to put the blam on someone else I admit! shame on me 😅). Anyway, it was complex and it took me ten years to finaly be able to do it.
How I did that? Well, last year I started thinking seriously about getting promoted at my company. The positions I aimed required to speak english so it was vital for me to find a solution. During the same week, and as I was watching random ideos on youtube to make the time pass by, a French youtuber released a video where he explained how he had been able to meditate every single day for an entire year (link above if you are interested). Infact, he gave a bunch of advice that I found super usefull and most of all, I thought I could apply the same method to eventually commit to learn English.
The advice that resonate the most with me was what he called "the chain rule". Basically, what he did in his own case is that he put a calender in his office, where he had the possibility to see it every day. Then, he started to put a cross on every day he did his 10 min of meditation. As time was passing by, the crosses started to form a chain wich obviously was getting longer and longer. What he explained is that after few days or weeks, he has noticed a sort of boredom and he wanted to quit the adventure or at least take a day off (just like me with almost everything I undertake in my life). Nonetheless, doing so was meaning that he would have broken the chain he had created during days and weeks, which was sad, tough and totaly unacceptable for him! Here is how this simple method is so powerful! It pushs you to be consistent and holds you accountable.
It has been one year since I started using this trick and I have to say that it works perfectly for me. I feel so lucky and I am grateful to have came across this amazing video, that is why I am sharing this concept with you. Hopefully, it could help those who are struggling just like I used to do.
Please leave your thoughts about that in the comments section, I would love to read them all.

@Achraf, Great! I’ve discovered this technique as well, and it really does work! Who would have thought a chain of X’s would matter so much to us?! 😂
Exactly @Olivia 😅
