I recently finished some knitting projects. I only knit while speaking English on Skype with my friends from overseas, so these are my "speaking time projects".
The first project was a vest for myself and it took me over six months to finish. Since the pattern was quite complicated, I made a mistake and had to start over. I'm happy I finally completed it.
The second project was also a vest for myself. I started knitting it two years ago, and even though the pattern was very simple, it still took me two years to complete it. I can't believe why it took so long, but I'm happy with it.
The third project was a cap for my husband. He wanted a new one for skiing and cycling. Now, he is happy with his new cap.
Now, I've started making a cap in the same design for myself. Mine is purple.
The last project is a vest for my grandson. Although my daughter requested me to knit a red vest for her son, I didn’t have any red yarn in my stash. Instead, I found a reddish-purple yarn, which I think goes well with navy colored jeans. I’m sure he’ll look adorable wearing them together.
While working on my purple cap and my grandson's vest, I'm also thinking about knitting a vest for my husband. Since the weather has been so cold lately, it's the perfect season for knitting!

Your projects look great! Especially the first one with the complicated pattern. Knitting while you chat the the language you're trying to learn is a fantastic idea. I'll have to try to think of something like that for myself.
Thank you for reading two of my journal entries. At first, while speaking English, knitting was extremely difficult, but it's not so hard now. However, I can't speak English while reading. My brain start thinking what I'm reading. Our brains are very mysterious, aren't they? I'm curious what you'll do while speaking Japanese.
@yumiyumayume : In Spain there has always been a long tradition of knitting and this task has always been associated with women. My mother has always made us caps, scarves, vests, sweaters and socks.
Nowadays, with the advent of cheap textiles, this activity has been greatly reduced.
From my point of view, knitting is a good way to reduce anxiety and stress.
@druida Your mom is wonderful! My mom doesn't know how to knit, and I taught myself how to do. I totally agree with you! Hand-knitted products are much warmer than machine-made. I also agree that knitting definitely reduce anxiety and stress. Knitting is kind of meditation. I love knitting and I always think I want to keep knitting without painting. I'm always fighting against the feeling.
