I started playing soccer when I was four years old, and since then I have been in love with the sport. At first, I played as a goalkeeper, but when I turned 7, I started playing as a striker. I don't remember why, but I guess the reason was that I wanted to score a lot of goals and not be a goalkeeper.
The 2006 World Cup final match between Italy and France is my first great memory of a soccer match because it was an exciting game. Many soccer legends played in that game, it went into extra time and Italy won the World Cup on penalties. Thanks to that game I became very interested in watching those players and their teams, and that's when I started to be a fan of A.C. Milan because several Italian players played in this team. In addition, A.C. Milan won the most important international club tournament, the Champions League in 2006-2007. I was happy to be a fan of a pretty good and successful team.
In 2008 my favorite player of all time Ronaldinho arrived as the new star player of A.C. Milan. He was not as successful as at F.C. Barcelona, but he showed his talent and magic. He was an inspiration in the way I play because I love his style, ball control and dribbling. When I was between 9 and 11 years old, I practiced hitting the ball with both legs, and Ronaldinho's dribbles a lot to become a better striker. Therefore, at the beginning of high school, I was one of the best players in my class. In the first 3 years, I played with my friends almost every recess, and obviously the teachers got mad at us, hahaha. In all five years of high school, I played with my friends in all the interschool games. It's a nice experience to remember.
Although I love soccer, my father didn't let me train with a team until I turned 16. I practiced for a year with my town's team. We participated in a regional tournament, and reached the semifinals. Then I went to college. In the first year I did not play soccer in the city where I'm studying. However, whenever I spend some days in my home town, I play some matches.
It wasn't until my second year of college that I met a friend who invited me to play with her, and I went back to playing more frequently.
For all these reasons and others not mentioned in this post I can say that soccer is my favorite sport.
Do you have a favorite sport? Let me know in the comments section.
Thanks for reading.
Great post! Thank you for sharing your story. My favorite sport is tennis, but I also like long-distance running.
Great Michael. I've never played tennis, hahaha. Thank you for your corrections and your comment.
I would say that football (of course, soccer is okay in this context, but I prefer football as I am not American :)) is my favorite sport too. My club is Feyenoord from my home town Rotterdam in the Netherlands, but because I spent a lot of vacations with my family near Turin, and we love this city, we also support la Vecchia Signora, Juventus. Sorry! Nice piece and well written, keep it up!
I know Feyenoord, they are one of the most popular teams in Holland. It's sad that you support such a bad team like Juventus, hahaha, just kidding Karin ;) Thanks for your help.
My favorite spectator sport is football. We watch the Premier League regularly... 90 matches so far this season!
Great article, Luis. Your writing is at a very high level. Thanks for sharing this. My favorite sport to watch is tennis. For exercise, I prefer dancing to sports.
Kathleen thank you for your nice comment and for your excellent explanations, they are very helpful. Dancing is a very good and fun sport.
