Hän kirjoittaisi kirjan, joka kiinnostaisi vain häntä itseään ja joka olisi niin tylsä, että sitä olisi liki mahdotonta lukea nukahtamatta. Niin hän suojelisi itseään.

He would write a book that would interest only himeself and that would be so boring that it would be almost impossible to read it without falling asleep. That way he would protect himself.

* kiinnostaa : to interest (jotakuta: somebody)

* tylsä : boring, dull

* liki : almost, nearly, close to

* mahdoton : impossible

* Abessive Case (-tta/ttä) : Without doing something. Use the -mA-infinitive (the third infinitive) to form verb-based abessives, taking the strong stem of the verb. To this stem, add -ma/mä- and then -tta/ttä.

* nukahtaa : (intransitive) to fall asleep

* suojella : (transitive, usually atelic) to protect

Voi ei, oliko luentoni niin tylsä, että olin saanut hänet nukahtamaan? Miten mieleni tekikään huutaa yleisölle, ettei minua huvittanut jatkaa luentoani, ja karata paikalta.

Oh no, was my lecture so boring that I had made him fall asleep? How I felt like shouting at the audience that I didn't feel like continuing my lecture and runing away from the place.

* voi ei : oh dear, oh no

* luento : lecture (especially one given in a higher learning institution as part of the curriculum)

* saada : (transitive, auxiliary + illative of the third infinitive) to make (to cause the direct object to be the subject of a verb)

* tehdä mieli : (transitive, idiomatic, impersonal + genitive or + partitive) to feel like, to would like, to fancy (with first infinitive 'what one feels like doing')

* huutaa : (intransitive, transitive) to shout, yell

* yleisö : audience (group of people seeing or otherwise witnessing a performance)

* huvittaa : (impersonal + partitive, auxiliary + first infinitive) to feel (like doing), want (to do)

* jatkaa : (usually atelic) to continue, keep on, go on

* karata : (intransitive) to escape, run away

* paikalta : from the place where something is held
