Fiction is Addiction

Fiction can be really addictive, because of its ability to blur or sometimes even diminish the lines separating fiction versus non-fiction. Starting from something to take the edge off and relax to slowly being inspired by it, setting unrealistic expectations, and then ignoring reality completely.

Fiction encompasses a lot, from movies, and reality TV, to anime, and novels, down to the stinky stuff like extreme adult content. The next problem presented is the unlimited supply. It just never ends, and the next thing is even more novel than the last.

The result is that a person loses his ability to take initiative in life, and just reacts to life because he can bypass the reward circuitry of his brain from the comfort of his bed. Moreover, our greatest benefactors, the industrialists, really love to cash in on this.
