How Does An ANTI To Do LIST Work?

Presently, I'm participating in a book club in Hungary. Every month, I get the monthly pick and a small related surprise, it's like a mini subscription box. This month, we, the book clubbers read Linn Strømsborg's, a Norvegian women writer 2023 novel, translated as BASZKI BASZKI BASZKI (meaning FUCK FUCK FUCK, as cuss words). It's a nice novel for all the thought daughters out there, especially me; however, it won't be a favourite, I suppose.

A thought daughter is a female specimen who tends to overthink everything and plans to read (more of) Clarice Lispector 😎.

Mild spoilers ‼️

Long story short, we, the book club readers were gifted an ANTI to do LIST notebook, because Britt, the heroine in Linn's novel would certainly need one. Her life derailed when her mom walked out on her and her dad in her tweenage years. Now, she is 43 and unhappily married with a daughter. (Heroines with mommy issue always have daughters in novels. . .). Britt is on struggle bus every day, because she is the time poor family slave running after the family cleaning up and then rushing to work. One day she discoveres a lump in one breast. While she awaits the biopsy result, the family goes on holiday with Britt as the master luggage packer. One day she loses it in front of family and friends. The only one sympathising with her is Nico, her hubby's female buddy who resembles the mom who abandoned Britt.

As I said, this is pretty much a thought daughter novel with Britt's internal monologue and very little banter. It's a page turner. I suppose, her lump will turn out bening and she will do something surprising. When I finish reading, I plan to write a journaly update.

Undoubtedly, Britt needs to unfuck her life, pardon my French, sort out her problems. The ANTI to do LIST notebook is a fitting gift accompanying this novel. And they're matchy-matchy, look.

An ANTI to do LIST is a list of things, e.g. habits you need to unlearn. The habits that hinder you in life. The habits that make you lose your mojo. People pleasing. Things like this.

But, how should I use the notebook? Shall I list what I should not do? For example:

  • Don't give a damn.

Or does the "ANTI" in the title stands for all the "shouldn't" and "don't" in the world? So, do I write?:

  • Give a damn.

You know:

TO DO

  • Buy milk.

ANTI TO DO

  • Give a damn.

It makes sense. Some at least. 🤷‍♀️
