I've recently joined ( -to!) ToastMasters. Toastmasters is an international organization that focuses on public speaking - in English of course.
I've always wanted to get into public speaking because I want to share my work with the world, so I think communication isreally important. (It's one of the reasons I started writing here and practicing the American accent, to improve my writing and speak more clearly.)
I did an impromptu speech so far, where they show you a random word, picture, or object, and you have to talk about it for two minutes. I started with a lot of energy, but after a while, I became self-conscious, and the energy faded a bit. Regardless, it went pretty well.
I also want to do a prepared speech that has to be at least five minutes long, I just don't know what the topic should be.
Some of you have been reading my prompts for a while now. Do you have any ideas about what you'd like to hear from me that you find interesting?
Obviously, I'm going to share my prompt here. :D
Both my dad and my brother (both native English speakers) have done toastmasters and found it very helpful for improving their public speaking skills! I think doing it to improve your English and your public speaking skills is a great idea! You can talk about anything really. My dad once won an award at Toastmasters for a speech called "Bananaphobia" which was about how my brother was afraid of bananas and my dad used that to get my brother to leave him alone while he was working by putting a banana peel on his office door 😂
@Sunflower1234 My girlfriend literally has this phobia but with Orange. If you show her an Orange she runs away and if you get close enough to her with an Orange she becomes aggressive :D
Wow! I'd never heard of anyone except my brother who was scared of fruit! My brother has (unfortunately) outgrown his phobia.
