Eduardo Galeano (1940-2015) was a Uruguayan journalist and writer, and is considered one of the most influential writers in Latin America.

Those who work are afraid of losing their jobs.

And those who don't work are afraid of never finding a job.

Those who are not afraid of hunger are afraid of food.

Motorists are afraid to walk and pedestrians are afraid of being run over.

Democracy is afraid to remember and language is afraid to say.

Civilians are afraid of the military. The military is afraid of the lack of guns.

The guns are afraid of the lack of war.

It is the time of fear.

Woman's fear of man's violence and man's fear of the fearless woman.

Fear of thieves and fear of the police.

Fear of the door without a lock.

Fear of the time without clocks.

Fear of the child without television.

Fear of the night without sleeping pills and the morning without waking pills.

Fear of loneliness and fear of the crowd.

Fear of what was.

Fear of what will be.

Fear of dying.

Fear of living.
