This will be a mix of Spanish and English. I've chosen to write something short every day in Spanish. I will write a draft without referencing any tools. Then I will use a translator (DeepL) too see how it would have written it. Finally, I will end with reflections upon seeing the two versions. I plan on doing this every day for one month. I am happy to hear suggestions regarding this approach.
Spanish Draft 1.
English (what I was intending to communicate): We bought a house in Colorado but I hope that we continue our life of travel. I want to visit many more cities in our RV, see more places in the world and take more cruises. I hope our house doesn’t stop our travel.
Questions & Reflections
hemos comprado - I know this form for "we have bought." My intention was to use preterite and "we bought" Why did DeepL correct this?
sigimos - "sigimos" is subjunctive. I know I should have used it but had brain freeze regarding conjugation.
viajando - I wrote literally my translation of "life of travel." I think this is the gerund following sigimos to say " continue traveling." Does "life of travel" not translate in Spanish?
del mundo - I did a literal translation from English for "in the world." I guess it's incorrect. Not sure how I would have caught this one.
hacer mas cruceros - I used "tomar" for "take a cruise. Is that wrong? Or just poorer word choice? SpanishDict shows "Tuve que tomar el tren para ir a trabajar."
Espero - I used Ojala. I thought they were synonyms.
Detenga - Subjunctive form of "detener." I've seen the word occasionally and should get more familiar with it. I used the subjunctive for of "parar" meaning "to stop." But, that may be the wrong sense of "stop" for my meaning.
