Hydrangea, Visiting Yokokuji Temple

June is hydrangea season in Japan, and we can see them everywhere. In our garden, we have two different kinds, and they're in full boom right now.

I love visiting flower spots where we can enjoy viewing the scenery. This time, I visited Yokokuji Temple in Kyoto with a friend of mine a couple of days ago. The temple is famous for various types of hydrangeas. I was excited visiting there because I love these flowers.

The place is located at the top of a hill, so we had to drove to reach there. I was surprised to see cars with license plats from different areas. It made me think this place must be popular. Even though it was a weekday, there were many visitors. We saw lots of different colored hydrangeas while walking up the long corridor. I didn't know that there were so many different kinds. The deep reddish purple one was particularly stunning, and it seemed like the temple was surrounded by them. According to the information, there are about 5,000 hydrangeas there.

In Japanese temples, when we enter, we wash our hands before praying. At this temple, the chozuya ( purification fountain) was decorated by lots of hydrangeas, and it looked so pretty. I'd love to recreate this in my garden with a bird bath bowl and float roses or seasonal flowers. It would be so much fun!
