Social media has recently become an everyday reality to almost everyone. It doesn’t matter from which part of the world you come from, it is very probable that you are engaging on at least one social media platform. But what real impact does this habit have on our lives?
Let’s look on the bright side of the argument, social media can be used for many creative opportunities. It might be very inspirational for a lot of people to see a variety of activities that they might not have thought they would find interesting. You could be scrolling on Instagram when suddenly you see a thirty second video of someone doing martial arts and you might think that, that is something you would like to try out, you might sign up for a course and maybe that will be something you’ll do for the rest of your life.
On the other side, while social media can be used for an inspirational messages, it can also influence many young people to do or buy things they do not want nor need. For example, a young little girl could aspire to be a vlogger like the one she is watching on YouTube, and when that celebrity promotes a product, the little girl will immediately want to buy it thinking, that with that product she will be as awesome as the celebrity.
In my opinion, I’d say that the creative opportunities outweigh the negativity of the manipulative advertisement, but it is solely on the person and the content, that they have on their social media.
