Hello all!
After not having written anything on here for a long time, I'd like to write about my new career path.
Until recently, I was working as a professional delivery driver for a technology company, a relatively big one, for about 17 years.
I had, and still have, a decent salary and a very good relationship with my coworkers. I joined this company when we were almost 25 people and now we're about 200.
For the last two and a half years, I have woken up most mornings at 5:00 to have at least two hours to study programming before going to work. I found an online course back then and this journey started for me. I was excited and when I had a little extra free time during the afternoon, I used to study more.
That helped me communicate my new knowledge with my coworkers in the technical department. We're not a company that makes software, meaning that while I now know how to write code, especially in Python, and do data analysis and web scraping. However, that's not a skill that my company needs. The technical department is divided into two major fields. On the one hand, we have the MFP(multifunction printer) department where we install new MFPs for customers like big banks, big shipping companies, oil companies, etc. and we can install security applications on printers as well as features that allow us remote access and on the other hand, there's everything else a technology company can offer: the installation of new servers, switches, routers, PCs, etc.
And there's a backup service for both departments.
Almost two months ago, the COO of the company called me into her office with the manager of the MFP department and they told me they were impressed with my dedication to learning how to code, considering I have a 9-5 job and a family with two small kids, and they asked me if I would like to change positions and work in the MFP department. I would spend the next three months as a trainee and learn various aspects of the job, like how to install an MFP, how to set up a local network with a laptop and a printer, how to install remote features and features like "follow me" as well as how to troubleshoot, how to work remotely on printers and solve various issues and so many more.
I said yes almost instantly and we had a brief talk about various other things. Two days later, I was taking charge of the duties of my new role.
Where am I now? My daily routine has changed immensely! I've already learned how to set up a new printer for a client and perform all the necessary steps, how to solve several issues, how to set up a local network, and more.
I've also started studying for my CCNA certification. So you have a better understanding, the Cisco Certified Network Associate(CCNA) is an entry-level information technology (IT) certification issued by the networking hardware company Cisco.
Of course, I'm still learning as much as I can about how to write code and started coding my very own small web application.
I still wake up at 5:00 every morning, and, of course, no TV for me at night! I have so many things to study and I really love it!!!!
Thank you for reading my post!! 😊
