Recently, I discovered a project called "The Manta". That's a boat created by the association "The SeaCleaners" in order to reduce marine plastic pollution. The mission of the boat will be to collect the plastic floating in the ocean and to recycle it on the boat, while sailing.
First of all, the boat will collect the debris with its floatables collection systems which look like nets. Then, all of the plastic waste will go inside the Manta where it will be transformed and recycled into energy. The debris will first be sent to a sorting unit where operators will seperate it manually according to its nature. Some of the waste will be stock and will later be sent back to the continent where it will be recycled. The other part of the plastic will be recycled directly on the ship and transformed into energy. This production of electricty will then be used to power all of the Manta equipment. This boat will be entirely equipped with sustainable and renewable energy sources like solar panels, wind turbines and hydro generators. It will be a completely eco-friendly project. But recycling won't be its only mission, the Manta will also be a place of scientific research and experiments. Finally, it will be an ambassador for the protection and decontamination of oceans. It will be used to promote and raise self-awareness among people.
I believe this project is an excellent idea and the planet really needs it. Climate change, the environment and the wildlife are very important and we need to protect them. In addition to this meaningful mission, I really like the design of the boat, very modern and sleek. If all go according to plan, the Manta should be launch in 2024.
