There is a good quality sea food in Cyprus but they have the custom to cook everything by frying, especially with breading. The breading is the worst thing for me because this kind of cooking absorbs a lot of oil while you cook and if I eat this type of food, then I feel bad. You can hardly find a restaurant that can offer you a healthier type of cooking in Cyprus. And you know what? When you ask them to cook your meal differently in a good restaurant - steamed meal or something, they just don't make it. That's so odd! What can be easier for a restaurant to cook what a customer wants? Instead of frying you make steaming. That's it! Does it require a lot of work? I don't think so!
When you visit another country, of course you want to try everything, what we did. They have huge portions in restaurants, which is a big plus, but everything is cooked in a way I'm not used to. I'm not used to having a lot frying meal. It seemed odd to me that they didn't have enough service for their clients because Cyprus is an European resort.
So we starts trying different plates in different places, of course everything was breading and frying. And obviously, after that I felt bad. I woke up at night and felt like I was a heart attack, felt a lack of air, cold in my body. I was so scared and thought I was about to die at that moment. I've never experienced that in my life. Slowly, my condition improved but my vacation ruined.
Finally, we found the restaurant where you can choose more or less a good food. It was expensive with inattentive waiters. You can spend years waiting when they come up to you. So you have to stand up and walk up to them and ask them to serve you and repeat this again when you're ready to pay the bill. It's a good activity, isn't it? Despite this, dishes was better there than in the other places. We had to put up with the insolence of the waters for good dishes. This restaurant has an aquarium with fresh shrimps and fish that I love. But goddamn, they can cook them only by hard frying. I eat frying food at home, but my wife makes it so gently that doesn't damage my stomach. When I say frying, this implies a lot frying, at least for me. It was pity I couldn't enjoy all that fresh sea food to the fullest.
Adding to that Cyprus has a dry climate like you're in a sauna. I think dehydration and a lot of frying food caused my bad health condition. I had a low blood pressure and felt dizzy the rest of my vacation.
There was another mistake that I made - I didn't drink enough water. Here, in Moscow, I don't need to drink a lot of water because it's cold. When you go to a hot country, you need to drink a lot more water. When I was younger I didn't pay it any mind and everything was fine while I was staying in another South country , but now it's different. Years are going by and during the time we don't become healthier.
So I made the conclusion Cyprus doesn't work for me. Or maybe I'm getting older and changing a climate zone is harder to me than before? I'll check it when I go to Thailand.
The negative experience might be better than positive one because you're prepared and next time you don't do the same mistakes. Usually, people learn from negative experience more than from positive one.
Very interesting post! I actually have a Russian friend living in Cyprus and I salivate every time she sends me pictures of the seafood. Funny enough, I don't remember any of it being fried. I'll ask her to read your post. Great work!
A lot of Russians like Cyprus but me))))
...*but not me :)
I thought "but" could have a negative meaning, on par with except. That's why I didn't put "not."
Only after everybody/everyone, anyone, no-one, nobody.
