Fasting abroad

Hello! How are you doing ? Today I'd like to talk about my experience fasting abroad for the first time in my life.

I've been fasting during Ramadan for more than ten years, but it's the very first time I do it outside of my country. I have to say that it's easier to do it in a country that's mainly muslim, as routines and workhours get adjusted to this special occasion. Plus you feel like you're not alone, everybody is going through the same experience and it's easy to relate. Now, I am doing an internship abroad and I am the only one fasting in my team. I am sometimes worried that it might hinder my "performance", but for now it's going okay. I just sometimes have trouble to follow if there's a meeting that's going on for too long.

To avoid feeling l lonely I either call my family at meal time or try to eat together with a good friend of mine who's also fasting and lives nearby. That way I can chat about my day in my native language and feel some sense of home.

As always, my biggest practical problem isn't really thirst or hunger, those I don't feel much before 6 p.m. It's a bit of lack of sleep, because when I eat for the last time before dawn, I have trouble going back to sleep. But this shall pass, as everything does. I am glad I don't live too far from the company where I do my internship, that way I can go back to sleep until 8.

Thank you for reading my text. Have a nice evening !:)
