This is for IELTS speaking test in part 2&3 but I turned them into this short passage! So the language is supposed to be casual and it'd be better if you could correct my wrong choice of idioms or tell me some alternative idioms that I can use. Thank you in advance! :)
Just like what Camus tried to convey through The Stranger, there is no meaning in life but you can always create your own meaning and avoid self-exiling from life. That's the reason why I decided to take on those interesting challenges once in a while, to simply have some fun and step out of my comfort zone.
One challenge that I did was to sing on stage. On the New Year's Eve of 2022, my friends and I were sitting on the campus lawn, waiting for the fireworks to set off at midnight. As we were waiting, a group of students came with their professional equipment and started singing. Later we heard that they were from the music club and tried to hold a small-scale singing performance to celebrate the New Year. Their singing bowled me over. It was amazing. More and more students came with the music and everyone was buzzing// the atmosphere was buzzing/ electric. Since I'm a very cheerful person by nature, I gave them my best response, clapping, weaving my arms, singing along and so on. The singers were over the moon by my reaction and invited me to sing on the stage. Before that, I'd never sung on stage, not even in karaoke with my friends, because I knew my limits. There are people with absolute pitch and there are also people with absolutely no pitch. Back in the topic, those singers insisted that I should do it and everyone started clapping. "Time to wash your ears with the voice of hell", I laughed. I then walked up to the center of the crowd, picked a song and started singing. At the beginning, I didn't even dare to make eye contact with the audience. I was just staring at the lyrics on my phone as if I had been asked to read a text out loud in front of the whole class. Then, all of a sudden, I suddenly heard someone singing along. It was the singers. And then more and more people joined in. My spirit was somehow buoyed and I started to plunge myself into the singing/ immerse myself in the moment. After I finished singing, everyone gave me their warm applause. My 'dramatic' friends even yelled 'one more'. This really got my hopes up until I watched the video my friend recorded of my singing, absolutely no pitch but full of passion. Though my singing still sucks, I now know that people don't really care. It's all about the good vibes and having fun!
This was such a nice read, good job. Laughed out loud after reading the sentence: "There are people with absolute pitch and there are also people with absolutely no pitch." So true haha!
Hahaha thank you!
