Ded Moroz (Дед Мороз, Grandfather Frost) is a figure similar to Santa Claus. He brings presents to well-mannered children. Some people might assume that Ded Moroz and Santa Claus are the same character. But they have some differences. I'll list a few of them.

Let's take a look at appearance first. Santa Claus wears a red coat with white fur, red pants, a black leather belt and boots. Ded Moroz could wear red, blue, green and even white fur coats (nowadays he usually wears red or blue) and felt boots. And his coats are very long; they reach the ground. Ded Moroz also has a magic staff.

Santa Claus is often depicted wearing glasses; Ded Moroz never has them.

Ded Moroz rides a team of 3 horses, and he rides on the ground. Santa Claus can fly on his sleigh with reindeer.

Ded Moroz doesn't go through chimneys or put presents into socks. He places presents under a New Year Tree, or just gives them in person.

Ded Moroz has a granddaughter and his helper, Snegurochka (Снегурочка, The Snow Maiden). Santa Claus travels alone. Although Santa has elves as his helpers.

Overall, despite all those differences, they are still very similar. And Ded Moroz, while having different roots than Santa Claus, probably was influenced by him. Still, they are not the same - "Дед Мороз" is not a translation of "Santa Claus," so it would be wrong to use their names interchangeably.
