I have learnt about 'singular they'
Recently and started using it but soon after I read somewhere that using ' They' as a singular pronoun is insane.
Now I am confused. Should I use it or not?
Do you use 'They' as a singular pronoun.
like:
Each student should obey their teacher.
using 'Their' when gender is unkonwn is better then using 'His or Her'.

Hi Jashan,
I use it all the time. It's so nice not having to repeat his or her/he or she,...
Hi, in these days "they" as a singular pronoun has become a lot more prevalent due to identity politics, it can be very confusing particulary when people have their personal pronouns as "they" because it is not gramatically correct, I have always wondered how this has changed in other languages.
"Their" is not the problem. Are you talking about "they" as a singular subject pronoun? If so, what they would be referring to, (" 'they' as a singular pronoun being insane") is actually using "they" for example "Oh you remember River, they is coming over on Thursday" River is one person but because River identifies as gender non-conforming, they use the pronoun "they" instead of "he/ she".
"They" is a plural pronoun but due to identity politics, it is now a preferred way to be inclusive of non-binary gender identities.
Hello Jashan,
I also use the singular "they" very regularly, for instance when referring to a person whose gender is either non-binary, unknown to me, or simply not integral to the conversation.
Example: "I called the number, and the person who answered said they would work to resolve the issue as soon as they could."
This is what I think but I just wrote this post to see what everone else thinks. Thank you.
