I was just wondering everyone's opinion on this. I assume most people are writing in the language they're supposed to be working on or learning. However, should I also write some articles in my native language? This way people who are also wanting to practice reading English get some native experience....but is this not the intended purpose of the website/community?
I've just been browsing on the site, but I haven't seen much from any other native speakers writing their native language (I might have missed it), so wanted to know people's opinion (also as people who are learning English).

I agree with you. This article and others I found here from native English speakers (maybe I've been luckier than you) have been useful for me. Today, for example, I learned new vocabulary from the post "my girlfriend's mother". Thank you for writing in English!!! Thought I haven't written anything in Italian yet! Maybe I'll do that soon.
Hi Amie! I think that your idea would be great if you could specifically search for posts that are written from someone in their native language. I learn Spanish and at the moment I cannot learn anything from posts in Spanish because I would have to read all the comments too.
Hey. I wrote about it yesterday. I was inspired by a user called Tom to write content in my native language. It's a great idea to exchange languages!
Yeah I think it would be good to have a flag/tag that the post is written by native speaker, because then also people who read the articles to give correction or tips maybe know to skip those ones if they are not interested in such a thing. But, it is still in the development stages so hopefully Robin and team will add more features in the future.
Sometimes I write posts in English (my native language) here because I want to participate in the language learning community and experience but my Spanish skills are waaaaay too basic to be able to do that. I haven't done it much yet because I've also been a little unsure.
I think this idea (and the tag ones) are both really nice:) ! Maybe it's also because it's hard to found ppl. written in Chinese... if you would like to exchange languages I would be really happy to sign on:)
I think it's a great idea, too, especially for less popular languages. It's easy enough to find native English, French, and Mandarin content on the internet, but I can imagine finding native content in Icelandic or Welsh would be more difficult. That's not to say that native speakers of more popular languages shouldn't write in their own language. Writing in English helps expose learners to a variety of English voices. That said, native speakers of rarer languages can aid learners tenfold by giving them native-level writing examples they may not be able to find elsewhere.
I wrote my first post in English, my native language, because I wanted to share a review of a Turkish TV series (Turkish is my target language). If I wrote it in Turkish, fewer readers would have been able to read it. It would have taken me a LONG time to write it in Turkish! 😀
