Poor People

A man from a wealthy family took his son on a cross-country trip, so that he could see how poor people live in the villages.

They stayed for one day and one night in a very humble farmer’s house. When the trip ended and they came back home, he asked his son, “What did you think of this trip?”

The son replied, “The trip was very nice, dad.”

Then father asked, “Did you notice how poor these people are?”

“Yes”, the son answered.

The father asked his son, “What did you learn?”

The son answered him, “We have just one dog, but they have four. We have a fountain in our garden, but they have an endless river. We put lamps in our garden, but their garden is illuminated by the stars. Our garden ends where our property ends, but their backyard extends to the horizon!”

When he stopped speaking, his father was speechless.

Then he said, “Thank you, father, for showing me how really poor we are.”
