A sickly woman bore an illegitimate child, unknown to the father. They settled in an abandoned school bus. The boy was neglected by his mother. He was invisible. The boy simply did not exist.

There were only two occasions on which he left his residence.

The first time he left his mother, was to buy bread. His mother would always be the one to do so, but she was too sick that day to stand up. She handed him two rusty coins. Money was not a concept the boy understood, but the two objects on his soft palm were delightful. The road to the nearest store was indeed a long one. During his walk, the small boy stared at the two coins, played with them, and danced them between his fingers. As the only store on the straight trail appeared, the boy entered. An old man behind a counter gave him a smile. The boy was confused; what could such a gesture mean? Ignoring the intent behind such facial expression, the boy grabbed a bag of bread and proceeded to give the two warm coins to the old man as instructed. He got home just before sunset. The boy and his mother ate in silence.
