One of my favorite content creator has just released an amazing video which is really worth watching. In fact, it's the part II of a previous video he made one year ago. The concept is very simple and straight forward yet super interesting. In this video, Nathaniel is basicaly sitting outside with his grandma having a pretty normal conversation in front of a camera. The most amazing thing is that they switch between six different languages while doing that!
I forgot to say that this guy is a polyglot who is actually documenting his own languages learning journey on the internet (among many other interesting topics he tackles just like productivity, traveling, mental clarity and so on...) and by the way, that's why I started following him at first. His grandma is amazing as well! She speaks so many different languages but the most stuning fact is that she has a specific story with every single one of them, which makes her performance even more impressive.
I can't really remember her storyvery well since she explained it in the part I that I saw one year ago, but I think (if my memory is stil right) that she speak Arabic given that she used to live in Egypt when she was very young, then she and her familly moved to Plaestine where she learned hebrew. After that she spent her teenage years in Italy where she mastered the local language obviously, then to Argentina and finaly the USA! In overall, I think she is pretty comfortable in at least five or six languages, plus the ones she knows partely or barely (even one "dead languages"!).
In this part II, her grandson asked her about her experience with languages learning and how she is able to do what she does? One question draw my attention particularly. He asked her if she used to dream in different languages? Her answer was "of course yes"! Indeed, she explained that depending on the context of the dream, she would find herself speaking this or that dialect. For instance, if she is with her parents, she would speak French for sure because that what they used to do, whereas if the dream occurs when she was young, it would probably be in Italian,... I found this so fascinating, don't you agree?
Another interesting part was when they mentioned how different you might act depending on which language you are actually using. For exemple, how likely you are to use your hands (if not your entire body) while speaking Italian 😂. On the contrary, how calm and elegant you would probably be if you were to use French.
In addition to what I have mentioned, there are tons and tons of priceless insight to take away form these two wonderful videos. Because we are all going through this longue yet enriching process of learning a foreign tongue, I thought it could be helpful for you to check this out, and make the most of this amazing content.
Wow very interesting and very well written
I follow Nathaniel as well and watched the video a year ago, but I didn't watch this one. I already know what to do this afternoon. Thank you and congratulations for your well-written English.
Wow, your English is very advanced. I wish I was this good at my language learning. I love Nathaniel as well.
Many thanks for the kind words 🙏😊
